MICHELE COPPIN

Full Moon on Stage features Coppin's latest work which utilizes an ancient technique called Eglomise. Typically, it refers to glass decorated on the back by paint or gilded gold. "I have combined the two (paint and gold) to create images of the purest light and color. The glass is a smooth and very permanent support for reversed painting with oils backed by gold leaf and or metal foil."

While Coppin's recent paintings have drawn inspiration from the Cirque du Soliel performance, Alegria, she has produced a series which return to a more intuitive and almost imaginary reaction to the visual content found throughout this performance.'...the fool cleared his throat and began to explain..."It's really perfectly clear--If I were king," said the fool, "I would need a fool, and if the fool were king, then the foolking's fool would truly be a paragon of folly--folly so foolish as to be wise."Cirque du Soleil"-Alegria 1998

Coppin was born and raised in Belgium, and was exposed to European art from an early age. After completing her education in Belgium, she earned a BFA from the Rhode Island School of Design and an MFA from Pratt Institute. She exhibits both nationally and in Europe. "My paintings are about magic, beauty, make believe, dreams, hopes and sometimes reality."
