OPENING RECEPTION FOR THE ARTIST:
Saturday-November 27, 2004
7 PM - 11 PM
MIAMI, November 27, 2004. Bettcher Gallery proudly announces our most imperative exhibit to date and the Miami debut of acclaimed New York City artist, Marc Dennis with a solo exhibition,
The Mismeasure of Nature. By appropriating imagery through his visually decadent and classical painting style, Marc Dennis attempts at infusing the notions of beauty and seduction with new symbolic criteria and attitude through images of the natural world.
Please join us in welcoming Dennis as we open The Mismeasure of Nature on Saturday, November 27 from 7-11PM. The exhibit remains on display through ArtBasel-Miami, where Dennis will be exhibiting his recent drawings with gallery, Ricco Maresca of New York.
Dennis' masterful technique and subject matter come together to create images of sensuous mystery in an exhibition of small to large hyper-realistic oil paintings and drawings of intimate, seductive, and sometimes psychologically perverse interpretations of human behavior and its interactions with the natural world.
With a light-handed use of narrative and metaphor, his style of realism, in its lucid objectivity, results in a kind of strange beauty and irrational disquiet. Indulging in European art history, the contexts exhibited within his art collide with contemporary dilemmas of everyday life, suggesting that the natural world as a metaphor for our own behavior is filled with contradictions and complexities.
The potency of my paintings I believe lies in their lucid objectivity and technical proficiency. With a light-handed use of narrative and metaphor, I'd like to think my sense of realism results in a kind of nervous beauty. - Marc Dennis 2004
